Preparing for a Foundation Evaluation

A useful evaluation begins with the symptoms you have observed and the history you know. You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself.

Before the visit

Make a short list of cracks, floor changes, sticking openings, water entry or wall movement. Note when you first noticed them and whether anything appears to be changing.

Questions worth asking

Ask what condition was observed, what is believed to be causing it, what the proposed work is intended to accomplish, and whether there are alternatives. If structural design or permits are required for the proposed work, ask how those will be handled.
